Overview

This position describes a hands-on software engineer with the primary responsibility of working with the CambridgeSoft services organization to debug issues for the ChemOffice Enterprise family of products.  The secondary responsibility will be implementing software solutions for the ChemOffice Enterprise family of products. 

ChemOffice Enterprise is an application development framework, and a set of application modules, developed by CambridgeSoft since 1997 to serve the needs of our Chemical and Pharmaceutical Enterprise customers.  The main application modules include Chemical Inventory Management, Chemical Registration, Chemical Reagent Procurement, and Chemical and Biological Data Reporting.  All applications are web based, three-tier, data-driven, and incorporate our chemical intelligence.  They have been in production for nearly ten years at dozens of sites ranging from small biotechnology firms to large multinational chemical and pharmaceutical companies.  

ChemOffice Enterprise was developed using Microsoft Active Server Pages (Classic ASP), Oracle database backend, and CambridgeSoft’s chemical drawing and searching components.  These applications entail a large body of code developed in VBScript, Oracle PL/SQL, HTML/CSS, and client-side JavaScript.  The framework was designed and implemented by a group of compute savvy Chemists, not by seasoned professional Software developers.  It was “organically” grown over 10 years and not formally architected, designed, or documented.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for working with the CambridgeSoft services organization to debug issues and for implementing software solutions for reported issues in the ChemOffice family of products.  The person holding this position has the following responsibilities:

• Be able to quickly debug complex issues; often in the presence of customers
• Have a complete understanding of the ChemOffice Enterprise family of products.
• Ensure software solutions are done in a timely fashion
• Ensure software solutions are of high quality
• Ensure that software development processes are followed
• Ensure that issues blocking successful and timely software solutions are clearly communicated
• Provide support leadership to customer internally and externally

Scope of Activities

• Characterize and resolve cases
• Work to reproduce and find the source of CSBRs; often in the presence of customers
• Design & implement solutions to CambridgeSoft Bug Reports (CSBRs)
• Participate in code and design reviews of CSBR solutions as needed
• Answer questions for services, sales, and technical support group
• Develop against and coordinate SDLC as apart of the resolution process

Skills & Competencies

• Must be able to communicate in English clearly
• Must be comfortable interacting with customers
• Must have solid skills debugging software across different technologies
• Must have a good understanding of software engineering
• Experience (3+ years) with Microsoft web programming technologies such as ASP, COM+, and ASP.NET. is required.
• Experience (2+ years) with Oracle
• Minimum of 2 years of experience developing applications in an object orientated programming language such as C++, JAVA, or C#.

• XML, XSLT and SOAP experience desired
• Chemistry or Biology experience preferred

SaaS Support Scientist Job Description

CambridgeSoft has a technical support scientist role for the individual who is passionate about science and our technology. This scientist role is responsible for all aspects of running enterprise scientific software, from account management to trouble shooting, and senior-level technical support

Responsibilities:

       Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues regarding CambridgeSoft applications running in a hosted environment.

       Support customers with technical questions between different product platforms. Responses will need to be dealt with in a timely and efficient manner and further investigation will be undertaken when needed.

       Identify and work with R&D Department to foster new product introduction/acceptance on the CambridgeSoft Cloud

       Work directly with other technical support staff, quality assurance, Services, sales, marketing and R&D to resolve problems

       Document all technical inquiries, develop and review content for knowledgebase

       Help test alpha and beta products

       Report on customer Service Level Agreements monthly

       Become the customer’s champion within the company, by highlighting and addressing customer feedback.

Requirements:

BS in chemistry, biology, or similar field with 1-3 years experience in life sciences environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (MS/Ph.D. preferred)

Familiar with basic scientific information concepts desired, but not required if the candidate has a suitable scientific background.

Strong IT technical background. Programming experience is not necessary but would be helpful

Experience with database related technology and administration (Oracle and SQLServer)

Working knowledge of Microsoft application tier and VMWare environment

Excellent English communication skills

E-Notebook Enterprise streamlines the daily record-keeping of research scientists. Notebook pages can contain fully embedded MS Office documents (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), calculation/protocol management modules, images, and tables and properties.  E-Notebook contents can be searched by text and structure.  Oracle or SQL support allows organizations to share data, as well as maintain rigorous security and efficient archiving.  We are looking for a Pre-Sales candidate to join CambridgeSoft responsible for Biology Solutions software.  As member of a small team, this candidate will be working on the preparing and executing Biology solutions demonstrations and pilots for potential clients.  This will include working in conjunction with our sales staff to gather information about these potential client’s workflows and create configurations to meet their needs.

Excellent customer facing skills are required as there will be considerable direct involvement with customers. Travel to customer sites to work on requirements or development will be required from time to time.

This position is to perform technical support, troubleshooting and defect tracking for CambridgeSoft applications.

Skills and Competencies
